CP80-EOS – T-ring

Edit (10/18/2011): I was able to bring the cost down of these custom T-rings to $49 plus shipping.

Edit (9/15/2011): I’ve published the Design Steps for CP30T-EOS which also uses one of these T-rings.

Edit (9/09/2011): I made a second batch of  T-rings as I was running low. If you need one,  chances are I still have stock, just send me an email.

Edit (7/26/2011): The hybrid cooler CP50X-EOS also uses one of these T-rings. It gives the frame the mechanical strength it needs to hold the weight of the hot plate heat sink and its fans with no problem.

Edit (7/6/2011): I have made a small CNC run of these T-rings – if you were one of those interested, scroll down!

This custom T-ring is made of Aluminum and finished with Type-2 black-anodized. It is externally longer than usual T-rings for the purpose of clearing the flash nose (which usually interfere with front panels when used with a traditional T-ring).

It fits my T1i very well, the camera pin clicks-in with no play.

It also features four threaded holes on the top to be fastened to cooler front panels.

The main inner diameter is large enough to fit most T-adapters.

As you can see on the picture above, I use an Astronomy Technologies T-adapter which fit with at least 3-4 mm clearance all around. Internally it is not longer than a standard T-ring and will not cause additional vignetting.

EDIT (7/6/2011): Small production run completed

If you are interested in building your own DSLR cooler and need to clear your camera flash,

Or if you just need mounting holes on your T-ring to fit your DSLR cooler,

Then one of these T-rings might be solution. I was approached by a few people who asked me if I could make more of this custom T-ring. So I was able to make a small production run of these custom Canon DSLR T-rings that are now available for $49 plus shipping (price reduced on 10/18/2011). Just email me: mounioloux at yahoo dot com.

  • The schematics on the right shows the threaded holes pattern and dimensions: M3 x 66 mm square (x 4).
  • It comes with a set of four M3 x 10 mm socket cap screws.
  • You can use these or any M3 screws to fasten the T-ring on your own DSLR cooler box.
  • T-rings are CNC machined out of Aluminum.
  • Finish is black anodize (Type-2).
  • They feature the universal T-thread which is retained by the usual three set screws.
